Mark your calendars now; March 26 + Pavilion = Blues Café

We at the Great Northern Blues Society (GNBS) are quite excited about our upcoming Blues Café at the Rothschild Pavilion on March 26. Our lineup is one of the best we have had in recent years, and guarantee you will be treated to a great show.

As you may or may not know, we have two events each year where we do most of our fundraising. The Big Bull Falls Blues Fest event which is put on by Wausau Area Events, and is held on Fern Island in Wausau, WI on the third weekend in August each year, and our own Blues Café event.

We assist at Big Bull each year by running the “Sales/Autograph Booth.” This is typically located on the left side of the stage and is where everyone gathers after each show to get artist autographs, buy merchandise, etc. We enjoy doing this, as it gives us an opportunity to meet many “like-minded” people, and promote the music and artists that we all love.

Blues Café is an event that is totally put together by GNBS, and is our main source of revenue for the entire year. Lately, there are five or six people that do the lion’s share of the work for this event. At times it can get real tiring for us to keep up with the things that need to get done to put on this show. With this letter we would like to make an open appeal for more participation from our membership.

What do we need from you?

• Your membership dues. Even an individual membership means a lot to us. Every ten dollars helps us continue putting on these shows, and do the other things that we need to do. If you have not recently paid your dues, please do so. If you know someone else that enjoys what we do, please ask them to consider a membership in the GNBS.

• Participation. If you enjoy these events, please consider getting more involved in helping us. We don’t mean that you must take on huge responsibilities, but every bit of help goes a long way. There are many “small jobs” that need to be done.

• Help spread the word about the things we do. Last year we put on a great show, in an excellent venue (Rothschild Pavilion), but attendance was down somewhat? Please help us get the word out about this year’s Blues Café on March 26. It will be great!

• Attend the Blues Café event, and bring a friend or two with you. Needless to say, by purchasing a ticket, and attending this event you help us carry on a great tradition. We appreciate everyone that comes to these shows, and if you do, thank you.

• Your input. If any of you have ideas that you think would be helpful for us to run a better organization, we are all ears. Please give us your thoughts. They all help.

None of us at the GNBS are doing this for a living. We are doing it out of our love for the music, and fun that goes along with sponsoring events like the Blues Café. Increased membership – and participation – are a key to our continued success.
